February 2018 Meeting – Seth Rolland

Tuesday, February 6th at 7pm

Our February program will feature furniture maker Seth Rolland. Seth has been making custom furniture for 25 years, first in Taos, New Mexico and now in Port Townsend WA. He says “I enjoy pushing the limits of my materials and finding way to make furniture that is clean-lined, animated, intriguing and fun to live with”.

Seth has taught at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking and his pieces have been displayed in galleries throughout the country. His sunburst table was featured on the How They Did It article of Fine Woodworking in Aug 2010. This backpage article was titled A Slice of Genius.

Seth will be presenting slides showing the progression of his work, discussing early influences and how he got into woodworking, finding inspiration and translating that into designs. He’ll detail his ideas for developing designs from idea to completion. He may also discuss his workshop, working efficiently, and marketing and the business side of woodworking.

January 2018 Meeting – Tips and Tricks

Note:  The meeting time listed in the January newsletter is incorrect.  We will be meeting at our regular time on Tuesday January 2nd at 7:00pm at Hillcrest Lodge in Mount Vernon.

Jim Bucknell will, once again, be presenting on Woodworking Tricks and Tips. There will be some things you have seen before and some new ideas as well… All assuming the collective technical knowledge of NCWA can get Jim’s laptop to actually connect to the projector. Jim and Charley have pledged to check this prior to the evening of the meeting. So, come to the meeting. Chances are you’ll find yourself saying one or both of the following:

Well, duh, that’s obvious!”
or
“What a great idea! Why didn’t I think of that?”

There’s a good chance you’ll learn something useful!

December 2017 Meeting – Christmas Party

You and your spouse (or significant other) are invited to our annual NCWA Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec 5th at Hillcrest Lodge. This will be our monthly meeting and we’ll have a social hour beginning at 6:00. Our program will begin at 7:15 with the election of officers, presentation of our club’s Spirit Award, our President’s Woodworking Challenge and our annual Toys For Tots Raffle.

We ask that each member bring an appetizer or dessert to share. The kitchen will not be available so please don’t bring anything that needs to be cooked or warmed up. The club will provide the usual cheese table as well as coffee, hot cider and water. If you forget to bring a food item you can always throw a few dollars into the Toys For Tots donation bucket.

Tickets for the raffle will again be $1 or 6/$5 and sold during the social hour. We have some great raffle items this year including tools, big slabs of wood, and again we’ll be raffling off a $300 gift card from Lee Valley. And this year we’ll have even more items of interest for the non-woodworking spouses. Remember that every dollar earned with the raffle will be donated to Toys For Tots.

November 2017 Meeting – Toys For Tots

In past years many members have generously donated wood to the Toys for Tots Raffle held during our annual Christmas Party in December. We would again appreciate any nice pieces of wood you can bear to part with. If possible please bring the wood to the November 7 general meeting where a table will be set up to collect it. Please mark with species, board feet, and approximate dollar value if known.

If you are unable to attend the Nov meeting and would like to donate wood please call Gary Danilson at (360) 540-5768 or Al Ashley at (360) 474-9711. Due to space considerations we need to have all donations collected 2 weeks prior to the raffle. Items brought the evening of December 5 will not be able to be included in the raffle. Thank you.

We will also nominate officers for 2018 during the meeting.
