October 2017 Meeting – Barbo Furniture

WELCOME BACK, CHRIS AND HOLLY, BARBO FURNITURE!

The Barbo furniture company has been an active business in Bellingham for most of the past 80 years. Originally started by Chris Barbo’s father and uncle, it had to close during WWII, and also briefly in 1978 when Chris’s dad decided to retire. Eventually, Chris and his wife Holly opened a furniture store in Bellingham. They no longer run the store, but still build pieces on commission. Most of their current business is repairing and refinishing fine furniture and antiques. Some of you may have seen their presentation on laminating veneer in 2014. In this program, Chris and Holly will talk about how they do furniture repair and refinishing. They’ll go into lots of detail and share some of their secrets! For more information on the Barbos, see their website at: www.barbofurniture.com

September 2017 Meeting – Designing with Wood Movement in Mind

We often put a lot of time and money into projects we build. No one wants to glue up a tabletop only to have it split or to have carefully fitted joints open up after a season or two. The September program will help you avoid disappointing results by understanding wood and humidity. Hope to see you there.

August 2017 Annual Picnic

On Saturday, August 26, Val and Laura Matthews will host the annual picnic and tool auction from 1-4pm. See the August newsletter for directions.

Our traditional combined Northwest Corner Woodworkers Association (NCWA) and Northwest Washington Woodturners (NWW) event takes the place of our normal monthly meeting. There is lots of room for parking. Bring tools you want to auction, and bid on something you find that you can’t live without. All you have to do is show up with a side dish (salad, desert or whatever), something cool to drink, and a lawn chair or two. Burgers, hotdogs, brats, fixings, soft drinks, water, paper plates, plastic ware and napkins are provided. Details on the auction process and entry form are in this newsletter.

Serving will begin earlier this year, as last year the wait time was too long. Expect to eat about 2 PM.

This year the Woodturners are cooking!.
