The June program presented by member Jerry Couchman will show how to laminate thin live-edge material on background panels to create interesting contrast and depth to the final panel. Jerry has used this technique for several years as a design element on some of his boxes and small cabinets. It combines several woodworking skills and requires both power and hand tools to complete. With the right shape of the live-edge you can create mountain scenes and whimsical book-matched patterns. During some of his box classes, Jerry was often asked to someday teach a special class on this subject. This presentation will include pictures of the process and actual demonstration of some of the steps involved.

Our club is fortunate to have Tom as a member! Since 2010, Tom has been inspiring many of us to get out of our comfort zone and learn more about woodworking. Tom and his talented wife, Jennifer, have been working as professional woodworkers for many years and have shared what they have learned through the many classes they offer. Their work has been featured in Fine Woodworking and is available in the Northwest Woodworkers Gallery among others. Tom’s presentation will feature some of their recent work, what kind of classes they offer and finish with an interesting demonstration on one of his woodworking tips. April’s monthly membership meeting program (at the Burlington Library this month) will feature three of NCWA’s own wood carvers, who will demonstrate three separate approaches to wood carving. You may not have considered wood carving before, but after seeing how a piece of wood and just one – or a couple of – carving knives can be used to create an interesting and attractive piece, you too may want to explore the creative world of wood carving!

Don’t forget – the April 5th meeting is being held at the Burlington Library, at 820 E Washington Ave, Burlington.

It’s that time of year again! WoodFest – an annual event held at the Cascade Middle School showcases the works of high school woodworkers, woodworking craftspeople, and organizations such as NCWA and the Northwest Washington Woodturners.

This event – in conjunction with the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival – will happen April 2nd and 3rd, 2016.

This year – as in many years past – NCWA as a club, and as individual members – have been strong supporters of the annual WoodFest event. And this year is no exception. Anyone with a passion for woodworking needs to attend. And if you are new to NCWA and/or woodworking, you really owe it to yourself to go (and support) this special woodworking event. Your attendance has many benefits:

To you personally, what you see will generate more motivation and new ideas
To the high school students who dared to adventure into woodworking, you being there gives them encouragement and inspiration to continue working and experimenting with wood
To the public, it shows that you are an active supporter of the woodworking hobby or profession
