July 2021 Virtual Meeting – Darrell Peart

Darrell Peart, born in Wenatchee and currently resides in Seattle, started his career making and selling small wooden items at Seattle’s Pike Place Market. To broaden his experience, he then worked for many years in various high-end custom shops throughout the Puget Sound area gaining an extensive background in both commercial and custom furniture making. The influence of Greene & Greene can clearly be seen in Darrell’s work, but he rarely does exact reproductions anymore. Exploring new design work is where his passion lies, and it has brought him acclaim in the woodworking world.

Darrell also writes and lectures about design, woodworking, and the history of Greene & Greene. He has written articles for well known woodworking media. His first book, Greene and Greene: Design Elements for the Workshop, was published in April 2006 by Linden Press. His second book, In the Greene & Greene Style: Projects and Details for the Woodworker, was published in 2013 and he is currently at work on his third book which will be on furniture design.

Three of his furniture making videos are available through Popular Woodworking Magazine. He more recently produced a video with Marc Spagnuolo, available through the Wood Whisperer Guild.

Darrell teaches woodworking and furniture design as well from coast to coast. Darrell is well known for his innovative woodworking jig and tool designs. His Square Hole Punch is currently in production by Lee Valley Tools.

In 2011, Darrell was voted on to the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Thorsen House (FOTH), a restoration effort of one of Greene & Greene’s Ultimate Bungalows. His work has appeared in various galleries; has been featured in both local and national newspapers, magazines, and books; and in private collections throughout the United States and Canada.
