March 2012 Meeting – Art Learmonth

Are you interested in working with burls? Ever wonder how to design wild edged planks into contemporary furniture? Are you looking for inspiration for new designs? Then you won’t want to miss the March membership meeting. Art Learmonth spends countless hours in a small but fully equipped shop in the basement of his Anacortes home, creating a huge range of furniture, art and cabinets from all kinds of wood. His sense of design and attention to detail is very impressive. Often the structure of the pieces is an important design element, rather than something to be hidden. Woodworkers, both new and seasoned, will come away with something to think about after our meeting on the 6th. See you there!

February 2012 Meeting – Mock-Ups

Bob Gaubatz will show tricks and techniques he uses to work through design and build details before committing to expensive wood. Save time and money through quality planning!

January 2012 Meeting – Dovetail Jigs

The January Meeting is another idea from Ed Pysher. He has arranged for one of the Seattle Woodcraft store’s regular instructors, Steve Dando, to give a demonstration of the features of three different dovetail jig systems. Normally, there is a charge for his time, but the Woodcraft store is picking up the tab! According to Jay Geisel, a few years ago Steve conducted a router class in Anacortes for six of our members who each paid $100, and they all felt the class was well worth it.

December 2011 Meeting – Larry Tomovick

Our December meeting will feature long-time member and expert craftsman Larry Tomovick. Larry will present pictures of much of his work (courtesy of Charley Drake), and talk about his woodworking style, technique and current projects. He’ll also have examples of his work for us to admire.
