Our January program will be a presentation by Seattle woodworker Grady Matthews.

Grady Matthews has been designing and building fine furniture and architectural cabinetry in the Seattle area since 1976. He shows his work primarily in the Northwest, but his pieces reside in homes and businesses throughout the United States and abroad. He began his woodworking career designing and producing interior architectural accessories. He presented his first solo show of furniture at the Northwest Gallery of Fine Woodworking in 1989; he also received an American Crafts Award for his Gazelle Table in the same year. He is founding member of Northwest Gallery of Fine Woodworking and has been extensively involved in the development of this successful cooperative. He has held several positions on the Board of Directors of the cooperative as well as serving as President. His presentation titled ‘My Life in Woodworking’ will cover his development as a woodworker as well as lessons learned along the way.

Come and enjoy seeing what Grady has worked on in the past and his plans for future projects.

December 2018 Meeting – George Knutson

Tuesday, December 4th at 7pm

A Look Back to the Future!

2019 President, George Knutson, brings us a slideshow of some of the highlights from 2018, and some of the plans being worked on to make 2019 even bigger and better. Shows and Events, Shop Tours, Annual Picnic, more great Classes and Workshops, and a BIG new venue with lots of new possibilities. There’ll be several awards presented, and he’ll also update us on our progress with the Strategic Plan developed earlier this year.

This is your chance to provide your input on what you want to see more of, and less of, in 2019. If you want to bring ideas written on a piece of paper rather than standing up at the meeting, no problem. We’ll have a suggestion box at the meeting, in the back of the room. We’re interested in knowing what you think we should “keep doing” as well as what we should “start doing”. It’s YOUR club. Speak up and let us know your opinions, and let’s figure out how we can make it happen for ALL OF US in 2019!

November 2018 Meeting – Toys for Tots

Tuesday, November 6th at 7pm
We are back at the Hillcrest Lodge for the November meeting.

John Braun and Jerry Anderson will be demonstrating using templates and jigs to aid woodworkers in making toy trucks and cars. Templates and jigs can also be adapted to other types of toys. There will be an audience-participation portion for toy making. The Marines will be picking up the toys that the Toys for Tots committee has made.

As an added note there will be an approximately 10 minute flag ceremony in honor of Bill Baer by a Marine volunteer.

October 2018 Meeting – Brian Noel

Making the Cut – A Career in Woodworking

Our October program will feature NCWA member Brian Noel of Oak Harbor. Brian and his wife Kitty started their business Bearkat Wood 18 years ago making small projects for the Myrtle shops on the southern Oregon coast. Brian has continued making custom fine furniture since that time and 8 years ago began making saws and card scrapers. The June issue of Fine Woodworking reviewed one of his saws and titled the article “Premier Dovetail Saw is Worth the Wait”. Come and hear Brian discuss his woodworking processes and what’s involved in making a premium handsaw.
